Erica Frenay owns and operates Shelterbelt Farm, an integrated livestock and perennials farm she and her husband Craig started from scratch on 25 overgrown acres near Ithaca, NY, inspired by Erica's training in Holistic Management and planned grazing. Shelterbelt has been growing steadily over its 8 years, adding leased land and new infrastructure as its flerd of 100% grass-fed cattle and sheep--and poultry--has increased. She grazes the animals through a 2-year-old orchard of peaches, apples and asian pears, and is using the sheep, cows, and ducks to restore the brushy land to pasture. Erica is also the online course manager and livestock specialist for the Cornell Small Farms program.
