Limited Capacity filling up
By improving the health of the soil, farmers are also contributing to the health of humans, and the earth. Soil is the foundation of the farming system and provides resilience and redundant mechanisms for pest and fertility management. In this session, Rodale Institute chief scientist Christine Nichols will walk farmers through soil regeneration methods, and techniques of stimulating soil biological activity through a systems approach to food production.

Dr. Kristine Nichols examines the impacts of management such as crop rotation, tillage practices, organic production, cover crops, and livestock grazing on soil aggregation, water relationships, and glomalin at the Rodale Institute. She received a Bachelor of Science in Plant Biology and in Genetics and Cell Biology from the University of Minnesota, a Masters in Environmental Microbiology from West Virginia University, and a Ph.D. in Soil Science from the University of Maryland.
